The French Cathedral stands on the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin's Mitte district, facing an almost identical domed building across the square and with the concert hall between them, and it is really two things joined together: a small Huguenot church, and a large domed tower built beside it for show. The church is free to enter when open. The tower houses a museum about the Huguenots in Berlin and a viewing gallery reached by a long staircase, both with a small charge.

Entry to both the ruined tower with its memorial hall and the modern church beside it is free, with a donation box. Concerts of classical music are staged in the new church through the year and ticketed separately; the blue glass and the acoustics make it a striking venue. There is a small exhibition in the old tower showing the church before 1943 and the mosaics that survive in the entrance hall.
