Chapel of São Miguel vs Monastery of the Holy Cross
Two churches in Coimbra. Chapel of São Miguel has no online ticket listed; Monastery of the Holy Cross has no online ticket listed. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.
The chapel belongs to the University of Coimbra and is entered on the university ticket, which also covers the great baroque library, the royal palace rooms and the tower. Buy the full version rather than the reduced one; the chapel on its own is not sold, and the library has timed entry with limited slots that sell out in summer, so book online the day before at least.
The Monastery of Santa Cruz stands on the Praca 8 de Maio in the lower town of Coimbra, in central Portugal, and entry to the church is free, while a small ticket covers the cloister, the sacristy and the chapter house. It is one of the most important monuments in Portugal, as the burial place of the first two kings of the country. Walking tours of Coimbra combine the monastery with the university on the hill above, the old cathedral, the Joanina Library and the streets of the old town.
